Matt Sweeny Named Final Baseball Player of the Week
Shoreline Community College Athletics announced that sophomore Matt Sweeny has been named the final SCC Baseball Player of the Weekfor 2012.
Sweeny went 5-15 (.333 batting average) for the weekend with 3 runs scored, 1 RBI and 2 walks.
SCC won one out of four games with Skagit Valley College. SCC finished 6-31 for the season.

SCC Baseball Drops Final Two Games Of Year:
The Dolphin Baseball Team dropped their last two games of the season to Skagit Valley College on Sunday at Meridian Park.
In Game 1, SCC was only one out from a victory, as they led 4-3 in the top of 7th with SVC down to their last at bat, but the Cardinals got a big hit to tie the game and won the game in the 8th inning with another run. Shoreline did come back from a 0-3 deficient with a 4 run 4th inning. The loss broke the 3 game winning streak for Jason Shaw, who had pitched great baseball in the previous three games, allowing only 1 run in 21 innings, but he was removed with 2 outs in the 7th inning. Shaw did not get the loss in the game and still only allowed 2 earned runs in this game.
In Game 2, SCC's bats were silent and SVC went on to a 3-0 win as the Dolphins could only muster 5 hits in the 9 inning game.
The Dolphins ended the year 6-31 overall and 5-19 in the region.
Skagit Valley is 15-28 overall and 9-15 in the region, but was tied in 4th place with Douglas College for the last playoff spot in the region.

SCC Baseball Splits With Skagit Valley College:
SCC Baseball got its second road region win of the season, as they defeated Skagit Valley College 10-2 on Saturday in Mt. Vernon, WA.
In Game 1, SCC outhit Skagit Valley 10 to 5 but managed to drop the game 4-3 as hard luck pitcher Ryan Garrett ran his record to 1-9 for the year, despite only giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Jordan Padilla, Luis Delmar and Christian Estabillo all had 2 hits in the game.
In Game 2, SCC scored 1 run in the 1st and 2 runs in the 2nd, but broke open a 3-2 game in the 7th and 8th innings with 7 runs. Each team had 8 hits, but SVC committed 7 errors in the game and SCC took advantage of it. Layton Bush picked up his 2 win of the season by allowing only 2 runs (1 earned) in 6.2 innings of work and getting shut-out relief help from Vernon Ryan and Ethan Berchet-Hall over the final 2 innings.
Matt Cottingham and Daniel Cavanaugh had 2 hits each for SCC.
SCC is now 6-29 overall and 5-17 in the NWAACC Northern Region. SVC falls to 13-28 and 7-15.
SCC plays Skagit Valley today at 1:00 PM at Meridian Park in the final games of the season.

SCC Names Jason Shaw and Daniel Cavanaugh Co-Players of the Week:
Shoreline Community College Named pitcher Jason Shaw and Left Fielder Daniel Cavanaugh Co-Players of the Week for their performances against Olympic College over the weekend.
Jason Shaw won his third straight game for the Dolphins, pitching a 4 hit shutout on Sunday against the Rangers. Shaw has allowed one run in his past three outtings, all complete games against Bellevue, Douglas and Olympic colleges.
Cavanaugh drove in both runs in Sunday's 2-0 SCC victory over Olympic and was 4-10 for the weekend, with 4 RBIs and a double. One of the other RBIs was in the 6-1 win at Olympic College on Saturday, SCC's first road region win of the season.
SCC is now 5-28 overall, 4-16 in the region. SCC has this weekend off and will return for the final regional weekend on May 12-13 against Skagit Valley College. May 13 is the final home games for SCC for 2012. The SCC games against the Seattle University Club Team for this Sunday has been cancelled by SU.

The improving SCC Baseball Team split two games with Olympic College on Sunday at Meridian College.
In Game 1, Jason Shaw continues his "Magic" on the mound, as he won his third game in a row pitching the first game on Sunday at Meridian Park, as he tossed a four hitter and shutout OC 2-0. Daniel Cavanaugh led SCC at the plate, going 2-3 driving in both SCC runs.
In Game 2, SCC led 2-1 going into the top of the 8th, but Olympic stuck for 3 runs in the top of the 8th to ahead 4-2. SCC scored 1 in the bottom of the 9th and had the baseloaded, but could not push across the tying run.
SCC out hit Olympic 11-5 in the game and both Matt Sweeney and Jordan Padilla hit 3 hits each, but SCC errors caused 2 unearned runs and Willie Davies was the hard luck pitcher for Shoreline, giving up 5 hits and having 6 strikeouts in 7.1 innings, but getting the loss.
SCC is now 5-28 on the season, 4-16 in NWAACC Northern Region. OC falls to 12-23 and 3-13 in the region.
Shoreline has this weekend off and will face Skagit Valley College on May 12-13 to finish the season. The May 13th game will be the final home game of the season at Meridian Park.
The May 6th game against Seattle University Club Team has been cancelled by SU.
