Three SCC Student-Athletes Honored By NWAACC For Academics

Three Shoreline Community College student-athletes earned NWAACC honors on Monday. 

DaySCC Volleyball player, Lisa Day and Jenny Voss, SCC Women's Soccer player, earned one of the highest honors given by the athletic association, the NWAACC All-Academic Leadership Award for their academic achievement and community or campus service. Day, a two time Most Valuable Player for the NWAACC Northern Region and academic scholar with a 3.84 GPA while dual enrolled at SCC and the University of Washington has served the campus as a volunteer in many volleyball clinics and camps over the past two years, working with young children to teach volleyball skills.


Jenny Voss, the first three sport athlete at Shoreline Community Collegevoss in many years has a 3.65 GPA and plays soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter and tennis in the spring for the Lady Dolphins. She earned All-Academic in the fall in soccer, and just earned NWAACC All-Academic for women's basketball on Monday as well. Voss has earned three academic scholarships from Shoreline Community College Foundation and was picked to be one of the two student-athlete speakers at the SCC Foundation Breakfast last November.


Voss also leads the SCC women's basketball team in scoring, with a 11.48 point average per game. She is also 14th in the NWAACC in steals, with 66 steals this season so far.


bodmanJoe Bodman rounds out the NWAACC award winners, being named NWAACC All-Academic for 2011-12 in men's basketball. Bodman, a sophomore center from Post Falls, Idaho carries a 3.36 GPA and transferred from the Community College of Northern Idaho two years ago. The sophomore center is second in the NWAACC in rebounds, with a 11.17 average per game and scores 14.5 points per game, for the high flying Dolphins, who average 104 points per game this season. He has help lead the SCC men's basketball team to a 16-9 record and 10-4 in the region after a 13-13, 6-10 record last year.


Day, Voss and Bodman are all members of the SCC Green, Gold and Dolphin Academic Clubs for student-athletes and were honored last week at SCC Homecoming" by Shoreline President, Lee Lambert, for their academic achievements at the college as well.
