SCC Men's And Women's Soccer Open Season On Tuesday

SCC Men’s Soccer Hopes To Rebound In 2013, SCC Women’s Soccer Tries To Find “Final Four”

The Shoreline Community College Men’s Soccer Team hopes to rebound in 2013 from a 0-15-1 season in 2012. The Dolphins were NWAACC Northern Region Champions in 2010 with a 8-8-2 record under long time coach George Dremousis, and finished 3rd in the NWAACC Championship that season, after defeating Bellevue College in the quarter-finals, 1-0. But SCC dropped to 2-16-1 in 2011 and Coach Dremousis moved to Trinity Lutheran College to start the men’s soccer program there and former SCC player and assistant coach Steve Neff took over the team in 2012, but the Dolphins were overwhelmed in a bad season, going 0-15-1 and allowing almost 5 goals per game while averaging only one goal a game on offense.

New Coach Aaron Howe, has brought in 30 new team members to change the outlook at SCC Men’s Soccer after coaching the SCC Women’s Team for two seasons and taking the Lady Dolphins to the final 8 in 2012. Howe continues to be the SCC women’s coach as well.

Shoreline will face Bellevue College on Tuesday morning at 8:30 am at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila, WA in the opening day of the NWAACC Friendlies Tournament, where over 40 soccer teams will play for two days to open the 2013 season. SCC will face Olympic College on Wednesday in another 8:30 am match at Starfire, the home of the NWAACC Soccer Championship in November.

Coach Howe hopes to the take the Lady Dolphin Soccer Team one more step in 2013, as the SCC squad finished third in the NWAACC Northern Region in 2012 with a 10-6-4 record, good enough to make the playoffs, where SCC defeated Highline CC 1-0 in the opening round, before falling to Clackamas CC 1-0 in overtime at CCC, a defeat that kept SCC from reaching the NWAACC Final Four. Shoreline has high hopes for the 2013 version of the team to bring home a Northern Region Championship and make a long run in the NWAACC playoffs. But the Lady Dolphins roster is already down to 13 players, after expecting 20 players prior to pre-season practice starting, but academics and players dropping off the squad have now left SCC with a thin bench and depth.

The Lady Dolphins will also face Bellevue College on Tuesday at the Starfire Complex too, in a 2:30 pm opening match. SCC plays Highline CC on Wednesday at Starfire as well, in another 2:30 pm match-up.

Both SCC soccer teams will play their home games at Twin Ponds Park in 2013, leaving their campus grass field to play on turf. The Dolphins will open at home on September 11 at 1:00 pm and 3:15 pm at Twin Ponds against Columbia Basin College. SCC will open Northern Region play on October 2 when it hosts Edmonds Community College. Per NWAACC scheduling, the Dolphins are mandated to play the NWAACC Eastern Region teams in 2013 and those matches count in the Northern Region standing, SCC opens region counting games in their home opener against CBC.

SCC home games will be broadcast live “Online” by FX-Video in 2013 and many games will be featured and available for viewing on the SCC Athletic  YouTube site. Team rosters and full schedules can be found on the SCC Athletic Website at
