His MFA thesis was a novel in progress titled “Dragon Bones,” which plays with the conventions of science fiction to explore ethical, emotional, and aesthetic boundary states. His dissertation, “The Idea of Trust in the Age of Trusts,” examined relationships between economics, law, and literature. He has published fiction and journalism in local and national publications. These days he mostly teaches composition and is interested in models of teaching that privilege the labor and joy of learning over external rewards and punishments.
