Employee Bio

Davis Oldham (he/him/his) has taught composition, literature, and creative writing at Shoreline since 2005. Before that he was an academic adviser and taught at the University of Washington. He received his BA in Anthropology from Connecticut College and his MFA in fiction and his PhD in English from the University of Washington. His MFA thesis was a novel in progress titled “Dragon Bones,” which plays with the conventions of science fiction to explore ethical, emotional, and aesthetic boundary states. His dissertation, “The Idea of Trust in the Age of Trusts,” examined relationships between economics, law, and literature. He has published fiction and journalism in local and national publications. These days he mostly teaches composition and is interested in models of teaching that privilege the labor and joy of learning over external rewards and punishments. He currently serves as Faculty Program Coordinator (Chair) of the English Department.
