Employee Bio

From 1996 to 1999 Rachel David worked with survivors of sexual assault through all stages of the justice system as the Legal Advocate for Seattle Rape Relief. Rachel discovered that teaching was her passion while in this position doing training for volunteers, police officers, and prosecutors. Rachel loves teaching Gender and Women’s Studies because of the discipline's profound potential to affect students' lives. bell hooks writes "To teach in a manner that respects and cares for the souls of our students is essential if we are to provide the necessary conditions where learning can most deeply and intimately begin." (Teaching to Transgress, 1994). Rachel sees her role as an instructor as providing resources and opportunities for students to make discoveries about themselves, each other, and the world we live in through discussion and activities.

Employee Bio

Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology from Fordham University. Began teaching at Shoreline in 1998. Teaches face-to-face, online and in interdisciplinary formats. Trained in coaching techniques and collaborative teaching as well as other skills such as mindfulness.
